Gavin Ebert; ranked #1 – NYS U14 Alpine Ski Racing
Based on his race results during January and February, Gavin Ebert from Clifton Park qualified to compete in the New York State Ski Racing Association (NYSSRA) U14 State Championships at HoliMont Ski Area in Ellicottville, NY March 5-8, 2020.
Gavin Ebert placed first in the Super-G event winning by almost a second and half. After falling behind in the first run of the two run Giant Slalom (GS) race he took chances and skied a clean aggressive second run, resulting in a combined time to also bring home the gold in the Giant Slalom (GS) race. In the third race of the series Gavin Ebert had a very strong first run in the Slalom (SL) leading by over two seconds. In his second SL run, he once again did not hold back and took risks – unfortunately this time his commitment to skiing fast resulted in a crash preventing him from finishing the Slalom race.
Winning the Super G and GS events secured the first place rank for Gavin Ebert at the NYS U14 State Championships. From his State Championship results, he has qualified to compete in the US Ski & Snowboard U14 Eastern Championships at Sugarbush Resort in Vermont where he will ski against a very strong field of top athletes from the Eastern US.
From November to April, Gavin travels back and forth every week between Clifton Park and Lake Placid for school and his on mountain training. Additionally, this winter he was in CO, NH, and VT for discipline specific training projects to compliment his weekly training at Whiteface. He is an eighth grader at Acadia Middle School. In addition to skiing for his home club out of Whiteface, he also skis for the Shen Alpine Ski Team - earning a spot on the varsity team last year as a seventh grader.
