My name is Julia Tristan and I am running a write-in campaign for the upcoming Shenendehowa Board of Education vote. As everyone is aware there are three positions open and only two candidates on the ballot. A write-in candidate has the potential to fill that third position. I currently have two children attending Shenendehowa, a daughter in 10th grade and a son in 5th grade.

Our world is fast changing and ever fluid in what is expected of our workforce. My focus is to prepare our children for that world after they leave our halls at Shenendehowa. It is imperative that we are teaching our children the most update methods of accomplishing a task, but we also have to stay focused on the basics. The basics provide our children with the foundation in which they are able to expand their knowledge and skills. It is important that we teach collaboration as well as individual success in all aspects of the Arts, Sciences and Humanities. As a member of the Shenendehowa Board of Education I will focus on ensuring our children receive a quality education that is up to date and relevant.

Shenendehowa is fortunate in that we have teachers, administrators, and staff that are passionate about their responsibility of educating our children. They put in tireless hours to make sure they are providing the best possible learning experience for our children so that they love learning and become lifelong learners. We are also fortunate to have parents and community members that see they can make a difference in a child’s life. I will work closely with our community to bring their vast knowledge and experience into all levels of our children’s education. The more we can expose our children to the more they will grow and expand their knowledge and the unlimited possibilities for their future.

I am passionate about working with children and helping them grow and expand their experiences. I am currently sitting on the Advisory Council for the Southern Saratoga YMCA, serving as Secretary and Aquatics Committee Chair. Previous I served as the Program Committee Chair and Togetherhood Committee Chair. I am a Coach/Mentor of a CyberPatriot team of high school girls. This is a national competition that is sponsored by the Air Force Association, Northrop Grumman and Cisco Systems that teaching young students how to combat cyber attacks and harden networks again cyber threats. In addition to these activities I am a 2d Lt in the Civil Air Patrol, CapCom School Banking lead at Skano Elementary, Girl Scout Leader, and Boy Scout Leader and Merit Badge Counselor.

I have 20 years experience as a Semiconductor Engineer, I hold a B.S. in Physics from Purdue University and a M.B.A. in Accounting from St. Edwards University. I ask that when you go vote on May 15 for the Shenendehowa Budget and Board of Education that you write in my name Julia Tristan for the Board of Education.
